Schedule & Curriculum Updates - Yoga + Women's Muay Thai
Hey Team.
As gyms grow, some initial ideas thrive, others need a bit of tweaking, and some fall flat on their face. Luckily, we haven’t had any train wrecks; regardless, we are always trying to improve—always trying to level up. For this reason, we are adding a program open to all members, Yoga, and tweaking Women’s Kickboxing into a program we will call Women’s Muay Thai.
Yoga
Led by Carrie Lamberson, a certified Yoga Instructor and student of Juniper Muay Thai, the Yoga program will focus on flexibility and evening out some of the imbalances that can arise from extensive exercise and Muay Thai training. Yoga will be held every Sunday from 8:45 to 9:45 and is free to all members. The drop in fee for non-members is just $10 bucks.
To learn more about Carrie’s experience, see below.
’Carrie recently began training in Muay Thai at Juniper Muay Thai when looking for a non-take down form of martial art to compliment her training in yoga and lifting. She has been practicing yoga since 2000 and aerial yoga and circus arts since 2008. She earned her 200 hour yoga alliance teaching certification in 2018 and has been teaching aerial, vinyasa, hatha and yin yoga with an emphasis on teaching for athletes and individuals with special health conditions ever since.
In addition to teaching and practicing yoga Carrie also holds a Bachelor’s in Cognitive Neuroscience and has six years of experience training in powerlifting and three years of training in Japanese Shotokan karate and Korean Hapkido. Outside of her physical activities, Carrie likes to spend her free time with her two savannah cats, Kojo and Rafiki.’
Women’s Kickboxing Becomes Women’s Muay Thai
The initial thought process behind Women’s Kickboxing was that there would be a large group of female members who both: 1. Wanted a women-only space to learn Muay Thai, and 2. Did not want any physical contact—no sparring, clinching, pad holding, or contact drills. The classes were primarily centered around bag work and cardio drills.
While the women-only class format has definitely been a success; most of y’all have either 'moved on’ (so to speak) to Muay Thai classes—in a desire to learn more technique—or, have requested more pad work and drilling. For this reason, we are changing the curriculum to a program we will simply call Women’s Muay Thai.
Women’s Muay Thai will be similar to All Levels Muay Thai classes. Members will learn to hold pads and hit pads, focus a bit more on technique, and work on not only getting in a good workout, but also improving their Muay Thai. This class will be beneficial to our more advanced female students and fighters as well as our absolute beginners. We implore our female fighters and advanced students to take some of these classes.
Coach Casey Bohrman, our main Women’s Muay Thai instructor, is a pioneer of the female Muay Thai scene on the East Coast. With a wealth of knowledge and a whole bunch of professional experience, Casey has a lot to offer all of our students—from beginners to professional fighters. This format will allow her teach more technique and share a wider range of her skillset.
Lastly, there will be a small reduction in the price of Women’s Muay Thai from the initial $120 a month to just $100 a month. All Women’s Muay Thai members are welcome to take Yoga classes as well.
